Subject Matter
‘Subject matter’ means what is being shown, presented or discussed in an artwork. What does the painting, photograph, film, etc portray?
“The subject matter of my video is cats.” 

“Allan Kaprow was known for his low brow subject matter - typical everyday actions, such as brushing your teeth.”
