Agency is the ability that someone, or something, has to act in a given set of circumstances.
In other words, it means to what degree does someone have the power to do something within the specific circumstances they are in.

A word that describes something or someone that acts on your behalf for example, a letting or cleaning agency. An artist gives an object or artwork 'agency' to imbue it with language so as to act or comment on something political, emotional, formal or theoretical; to empower it.
